J.A. Henckels and Co is quite a popular vintage brand that can be found relatively widespread all over the world, mainly because the razor division of the company was in existence for many years, it started in 1731 and produced straight razors up to 1969. and exported these to many countries around the globe. They manufactured a lot of high quality razors over these years, and the company is still around under the name 'Zwilling', producing knifes and kitchen wares.

Quite surprisingly there is not a lot of information about these razors or their history out there, here is one page that could spark your interest in this German brand of razor.

This seems to be a half hollow ground stainless steel model and is in great condition. It has the original pamphlet, pouch and case. The condition of the setup makes this a highly collectable purchase, more so for safekeeping than use but if it was mine I'd certainly haul it out on special occasions! The razor seems to be in factory condition, so if you are keen to shave with a razor that was made and last stropped 50 to 70 years or so ago, then this is a good proposition!  The razor itself has a few tiny marks on the blade and scales, but preserving 'its virginity' to the new owner is more important to us than a polish, if the new owner so wish, this blade can be converted to pristine condition with a small amount of effort. The blade centers nicely between the scales, and has a black wedge fitted to the white celluloid scales.

*Vintage razors are priced according to model and availability, time spent cleaning and reconditioning them, and also time spent getting the edge into a shave ready condition (some are preserved as is, or sold as is for the new owner to sharpen) Please enquire if you need additional work done to this razor prior to purchase.

All straight razors will require a stropping on leather after its first use. Pics are unedited (for detail) and provide a true image of the condition of the razor.

The rounded point razor blade is a unique 11/16 in height and has a cutting edge of around 62 mm long and a weight of 35 grams. The spine is 5 mm thick and has not seen a whetstone of any kind. The dimensions results in a bevel angle just under 17 degrees.

She is a keeper for sure!
