What is 'different' about this brush? It is made from one section of wood, it is not segmented or 'joint' pieces of timer, the wood was cut in such a way so that the light sapwood sits on the collar and the rest of the brush makes out the handle. If you look closely at the pics it will be easy to spot. This brush, as with many of our brushes comes complete with 'divits and dongas' we don't try and hide natural 'imperfections' we love to point them out as they give character, soul and identity!
The Hardekool is one of the great trees the African continent has to offer, very dense, burns with intense heat, very hard and one of the species that will take forever before it degrades. It used to be burned liberally in our jolly bushveld fires, making for some of the most extraordinary memories, but this has become a scarce practice as resources have started to dwindle. This is one of the hardest timbers one can find commercially, even if you are based right here in South Africa.
