Shumate is one of the few American made razors from yesteryear, the are know for being pretty good shavers and if you need something from this country in your collection this could be a sensible choice.

The trademark "Shumate Razor Co. St. Louis." was used c.1904-1920. The company was founded in Austin, Texas around 1884 by Albert Teagarden. Joseph Shumate became a partner in 1895, and the name became Teagarden and Shumate. The firm first dealt in cutlery about 1900, and soon changed the name to the Shumate Razor Company. In 1904, Shumate decided to move to St. Louis, Missouri.

This razor is quite thin and light, and has a nice and clean blade, pretty close to its original condition, the scales, pinning and wedge are all in great shape. The bevel is nice and even, and we honed it up with one layer of tape to preserve the spine.

The blade weighs 36 grams and has a square point nose, the edge is around 70 mm long, and it has a height of 16 mm (5/8ths)

*Vintage razors are priced according to model and availability, time spent cleaning and reconditioning and time/level of honing. Please enquire if you need additional work done to this razor prior to purchase. All straight razors will require a stropping on a leather strop before every use. Pics are unedited (detail) and provide a true image of the condition of the razor.
