In years gone by many hardware companies and chain stores commisioned razor makers to make them a range of items and then stamp their details on the steel to sell as 'their own' Outsourcing such work is nothing new and it has been done for centuries, some brands 'become famous' and some faded away, but it was hardly ever on account of either a poor or superiour product, but rather marketing efforts and size of their investment in such a range. This razor is one of that we have seen a few of, branded 'Cobalt' and 'Cattaraugus Cutlery, Little valley N.Y. there is no problem in identifying the origin, but there are no markings other than that, so we are not sure whether the blank originates from the US, Germany or the UK. It delivered a great shave though, and it is quite clean for a 100 year plus razor.

The razor has a very few marks and blotches, is rust free and good for 1000's of uses, it is a great 'entry level vintage blade' that has a narrow, even bevel that is easy to sharpen and maintain. Someone had attempted sharpeing this razor and made some errors while doing so, there is a 'wide bevel' with a very rough scratch pattern, but with one layer of tape we once again put a thin, even primary bevel on the edge that is crisp, even and easy to maintain. The razor is in original condition and over a100 years old, it weighs 37 grams, has a 5/8ths blade height with a sharpened angle of 15 degrees, and a cutting length of 65 mm.

*Vintage razors are priced according to model and availability, time spent cleaning and reconditioning them, and also time spent getting the edge into a shave ready condition (some are preserved as is, or sold as is for the new owner to sharpen) Please enquire if you need additional work done to this razor prior to purchase. All straight razors will require a stropping on a leather strop before every use. Pics are unedited (detail) and provide a true image of the condition of the razor.

This razor is shave ready and can be used as is without stropping it, stropping should be executed after first use.
