This brush handle is made from Kudu inner horn bone, we had a piece of horn left and made that into a basic razor stand that fits the theme of the brush, 'henge' refers to the basic, upright natural appearance similar to the structures at Sonehenge in the UK. The bone is well matured and the stuff is HARD, it is harder than any wood I have worked with and very heavy at that, the inner section of the horn has a less dense structure with cavities and tunnels that allows for the traversing of blood, oxygen, minerals and other organic matter for the continuous development of the horn over the Kudu's lifespan, we fill these voids with resin, making the brush slightly lighter than solid, high density horn, but it is still heavier than most natural 'live' materials out there.
This brush has a light blue resin core which has been vacuumed to fill the finer voids and cracks in the horn, giving it a marble like appearance. We have retained the 'curved spine' of the horn, a feature that is unique to Kudu horn. Kudu antelope are among the most beautiful animals of the bush, and also carry the name 'Aristocrat of the dense bush' They have great cupped ears, fluffy tails and sports a proud bearing, they’re most often seen in savannah and bushveld habitats, and practically every national park. The males have spectacular spiral horns, which they use more for breaking off tasty branches than aggression. The longest horns measured are between 75 and 78 inches, just shy of two meters long!
The brush weighs 168 grams, and stands 120 mm tall. with a loft set at 56 mm. The body has diameters ranging from 40 mm to to 45 mm. The brush is fitted with 28 mm Silvertip knot, huge, soft and ready to rock and roll!
The razor is a demo we had made, it is all stainless, 316L and coated in matte silver, we will have some more of these available soon, but in another handle type.
