The theme of this brush ties in with our 'African Black' range in a new way in that the bulk part of resin is replaced with coarse salt, and not just any type of salt either, one of the purest forms of salt on the planet!
We obtain the salt from www.Oryxsdesertsalt.co.za, who harvests it from the Kalahari region where the salt is a ever-replenishing, renewable source. This source was discovered beneath a 50 km2 salt pan where three underground streams converge and replenish an ancient underground salt lake of 55 million tons from which the salt water is deposited into pans under the hot Kalahari sun and sun-dried. This process lives in harmony with the natural rainfall and the surrounding environment, wisely they only extract what nature provides. Did you know there is a 90% chance you are consuming salt with plastics in it? Read this and reconsider changing to 'Oryx' for the benefit of yourself and also the environment, their online service is top notch, even before I started using their salt in brushes I bought buckets from them that lasted me years!
This salty feature makes this brush even more charged up on the eco-friendly side as we only use about a third of the resin we'd normally use. Although you lose some visual attributes of the resin, you gain exceptional grip as the salt on the exposed surface of the brush is dissolved in water and leaves these pockets that feels will enhance grip dramatically, especially around the curves of the brush and your fingers. This salty used less than half the resin we'd use for a full resin brush.
Some interesting additional features we discovered is a brush that retains heat in the handle a lot better while in use (I fully submerge my brushes in hot water prior to a shave), and then becomes chillingly cold when rested after use. You may detect some more salt residue as you use your brush, nothing to worry and you can simply wipe it away with water, this in on account of some more inner crystals that are dissolving as we can only spend so much time rinsing a brush handle. I think it would be so cool if all the salt could be washed out completely, it would look wicked! Who knows maybe after years of use....
This brush was made with black resin, salt and Sekelbos wood, it is fitted with a 24 mm synthetic tuxedo knot. The knot has been lathered and cleaned and is ready for its first use right out of the starting blocks.
The grip on this is amazing, if you press it into your palm with your fingers and somebody rips it from your hand you will be good to go for a life in crime....no fingerprints left!
The brush stands 145 mm tall, with the loft at 60 mm. It has a waist of 20 mm and a belly of 38 mm. The brush weighs 108 grams.
