I have seen some of these pop up from time to time, but there is not a lot of information than can be found in a quick search, ELBECO was a trademark owned by Heinrich Böker & Co, one of the larger razor manufacturing outfits, so this is another Solingen razor that had links with the well known Boker brand, still operational and very prominent to this day. The fit and finish of the razor is better than most from that era, their blades also seem to be polished to a greater shine than most. so one can assume it was a product marketed at a higher end customer.
This razor weighs 40 grams and has a spine thickness of 4.2 mm, blade height of 16 mm or 5/8ths that delivers a bevel angle of 15 degrees. The blade is in good nick no spine wear, there are only a few marks here and there on the well polished blade. The etching on the blade looks good, and the Abelone inserts on the tang sits nice and solid with no movement whatsoever. The black, patterned scales, wedge and pinning looks fairly good and presentable, but you may want to sand down the bottom of the scales a bit if you want your razor to stand up straight by itself as they are a bit uneven on the bottom. The razor sharpened up easily and presented us with a nice, uniform bevel.
The razor strops very easily on a paddle and hanging strop, the Abelone inserts on the tang has another purpose other than being pretty, that is for sure! The shave was...(to be tested)
