This Whacker has Inner kudu horn bone scales with a slice of African wild olive as a wedge, right out of the bush! The dark, uneven, primitive looking steel adds a bit to the primal vibe. The blade is pinned with nickel rods and stainless steel washers.
The blade was made from locally made billits, resulting in a razor that is all handmade, right down to the steel used for the blade. This is the first time we are trying locally made billits using 75cr1 as the core material, the results have been excellent in terms of sharpness and shave comfort, our first customer reported back from time to time, and was very happy with edge retention and how it performed.
These 8 razors will have Cu mai/San mai forged steel forming a wavy pattern on the grind, and thin straight lines on the tang/point. The razors have more rounded curves with no sharp edges. This blade has a height of 28 mm/ 1 1/8", and has a short cutting edge of 53 mm, the spine is 5.8 mm thick, delivering an angle of just over 12 degrees, now this may very well be too sharp an angle, but it can still be remedied by taking some bottom blade away or honing with muliple layers of tape, and in this case we did just this, by adding 3 layers of tape (1.08 mm) This delivered an excellent edge at an estimated cutting angle of 14 degrees.
This razor is shave ready and can be used as is without stropping it, stropping should be executed after first use. I sharpened this razor on a new honing system we have developed and it works exceptionally well, so if you are keen to find out how great your future edges can become by using our affordable, compact system you may want to pull the trigger on this one.
The Bundu Whacker is range of razors that are meant to be less refined and affordable, but still unique and made by hand, as with many new product lines, cost to customer was the biggest criteria. Time spent making these razors is the single biggest cost factor, and they are priced accordingly.
